What this page is for

Backups export notes, transcription history, and common settings to a local file—useful when replacing a machine or recovering from mistakes. Restore replaces all workspace data on this device. Read carefully before confirming.

Open from Settings → Backup & Restore (exact label may vary by locale).

Included in a backup

  • Notes and transcription text
  • Task and run history
  • AI chat history
  • Dictation, watch-folder, space, and link-transcription records
  • Common app settings

Not included

  • Raw recordings and source media files (large; stay on disk)
  • Downloaded speech models (re-downloadable)
  • Caches and temp files
  • Files you already exported (SRT, etc.)

API keys, AI/translation service settings, and user tokens are excluded by default. To include them, enable encrypted backup and opt in to sensitive data.

Encryption

  • Optional password; it cannot be recovered if lost.
  • Encrypted backups require the password on restore.
  • Sensitive data requires encryption.

Before you restore

  • Restore overwrites every workspace—irreversible.
  • Stop active transcription, recording, or similar tasks first.
  • The app may restart when restore finishes.
  • Backups from newer app versions may require an update; older backups may trigger migration on restart.

FAQ

Can I store backups in cloud drives?
Yes—mind encryption and privacy; check file size limits.

Single-workspace migration only?
Backups are full-database snapshots today; use workspace tools or support for partial moves.

Same as caption export?
No—export writes subtitle/text files; backup is an app data package.
